STEVE FAGAN STATEMENT
STEPS OF MIDDLESEX SUPERIOR COURT
FOLLOWING THE HEARING ON 5-28-99
There is no way for me to tell you my feelings in just a few sentences. But I will share some brief thoughts with you before I leave.
It was 20 years ago that I left Massachusetts with 2 infants, 2 suitcases, and a paper bag full of diapers. l did not know what the Future would hold. I was terrified. l left with the girls because l believed then and still believe today that it was necessary for the safety, the welfare, and the happiness of Rachael and Lisa.
I was 38 years old and left my loved ones, my friends and my profession. I was raised in home where the best interest of the children always came first. They still do. While it was an agonizingly painful decision, I believe I did the right thing the only thing. It was the only thing I could do to protect Rachael and Lisa. It was - is - and always will be about the children. It was not an easy decision but it was the right decision.
Rachael and Lisa are extraordinary women. I am so proud of them and their accomplishments. Now adults Rachael and Lisa have become role models for me.
This is not a story that can be fully told by a headline, quote, or sound bite. I have been blessed by friends, family and a wonderful wife all of whom have stood by Rachel, Lisa and me throughout this ordeal.
For now we would like to move forward and get on with our lives. Thank you for your consideration.
